Media Create Japanese Software Sales for week ending February 5th: Soul Calibur V defeated by Resident Evil: Revelations

Soul Calibur V Ezio

The latest Media Create software chart is a sorry sight despite there being five new entries in the top ten. No game managed to sell over 44 000 copies during the last week, and debutant Soul Calibur V only managed to shift 34 328 units on the PS3. Namco Bandai is used to seeing its games dominate the Japanese market so Soul Calibur’s poor showing must come as a huge shock.

Other new entries include PhotoKano on the PSP and Ragnarok Odyssey on the PS Vita. PhotoKano sees you taking photos of scantily clad, underage schoolgirls in a virtual setting, while Ragnarok Odyssey is a JRPG with some Monster Hunter elements thrown in for good measure.

Further down the list we see Gran Turismo 5 Spec II and Dragon Age II. GT5 Spec II comes bundled with all the DLC released for GT5 so far, while Dragon Age II finally sees the light of day in Japan courtesy of publisher Spike.

Head on over to this week’s hardware chart to see if the consoles fared any better than their associated software.

I expected Resident Evil: Revelations to sell very well on the 3DS, its one of the reasons why I want a 3DS. Soul Caliber V is selling well, I'm happy about that. WOuld love to win that game wink Wink

It's not much of a surprise, is it? Soul Calibur is actually more popular in the West, Japan's preference for 3D fighters is more toward Virtua Fighter and Tekken. Also, the Japanese don't seem to have much interest in home consoles, the market is far more focused towards handhelds.

I actually think SC5 did well to outsell a pervy, questionable title on the PSP, because that sort of thing is remarkably popular in Japan.
