One of the key features of Sony’s upcoming PS Vita is the handheld’s focus on social networking and gaming with friends using ‘Near.’
At the press of a button, you can find other PS Vita owners around you and not only invite them into multiplayer games, but compare your progress, set challenges and drop virtual gifts for them, too, all while chatting to other players and commenting on their activities. Our Question of the Day to you, however, is:
Would you use the PS Vita’s ‘Near’ feature?
PS Vita’s Near features sounds a lot like social media channels like Facebook and Twitter, only ramped up with online gaming functionality - it would be easy to imagine a social game like Farmville appearing on PS Vita as all of the functionality will already be there.
Would you be interested in taking full advantage of the capabilities of PS Vita’s Near? Are you a social gamer who doesn’t mind others jumping in and sharing the experience, or do you prefer keeping to yourself while indulging in your hobby?

Comments:
No, that sort of feature doesn't appeal to me, and I doubt there will be enough Vitas around for anyone to get much use of it in SA.
that is one interesting feature, but I don't think you will pick up that many Vita's. Maybe when you at rAge or 2Upgamers or DBNGamers.
will just have to see how many people use it.
That sounds amazing. It's a really good way to meet other gamers I think. I would definitely use it.
Good question. I rate my chances of using it as a definite maybe! I honestly don't know...maybe if there were enough Vita owners?
not getting a Vita anytime soon, and i have to agree with Graeme that the density of Vita's in South Africa will just not be high enough to actually make use of this feature.
It's true about the PS Vita 'density' issue. Even if lots of gamers in South Africa bought a Vita, we're still pretty spread out and our reliance (or lack thereof) on public transport and a lack of public hang-out spots (like parks etc.) reduces the chances of spotting another Vita owner.
It's the same problem with the 3DS and its social features - not enough 3DS owners in a very spread out region.
When El33tonline was in Germany for gamescom last year, however, getting 3DS spot passes (even out in public) wasn't a problem. Population density and handheld ownership was good enough to get quite a few.
Can't say I'm interested in it either but it could come into its own at the 2upgamer events.
