The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim did not have any mod tools when it launched, yet the amount of mods that became available almost immediately was frightening. From new outfits to whole new areas and obviously multiple retexturing projects.
To make things a little easier for the modding community Bethesda have launched the Skyrim Creation Kit, the official mod tools for aspiring young modders out there!
To celebrate the launch of the Creation Kit, Bethesda Softworks also released a new High Resolution Texture pack for Skyrim, totally free! This is a hefty download with many textures now in a higher resolution, setting the PC version even more apart from its console counterparts.
But the feather in the cap has to be the inclusion of Steam Workshop support. The Steam workshop makes it easy to download and install mods for your games. This means you will not have to run any separate applications to activate or deactivate your mod, often one of the most tricky things to do in games.
It is obvious that Bethesda is taking the mod community of Skyrim very seriously. Notch one up for PC gaming!

nice, would be great if the modding was universal, meaning you can 'move' it over to console :-)
I've always thought that patches and mods and all that are from bad planning. They should come with the game when its released. (Excluding expansions though of course - otherwise SIMS would never have been released). What happens to those people that have no internet at home and just want to enjoy gaming. Personally I think all these mega downloads are alienating those gamers.
its got the magic words in there....FREE and HD. I'm still scared to try this game, I don't wanna give my live to the darkside......just yet. Will try it later on.
happy that they focusing on this game this much. makes the gamer feel important.
POItjie, you will be surprised at how quickly time goes by when running around in the cold mountains of Skyrim... all you are doing now is postponing the inevitable!
@RDM: this is not a patch in the normal sense. it is free content that the developer made after the original game released and had great success. plus, mods are not made by the developer so cannot be included in the original game. mods gave us great titles like Counter-Strike and Team Fortress, and MANY a developer has sharpened their skills by creating mods first.
Think of Wolfenstein Enemy Territory! A mod that evolved from map pack designers which ended up with us having Brink!... I wonder if Brink was fixed up because that game had immense potential... I miss Brink a bit. It had a hard time on release :(
Ok - see your point about Mods. But patches ... hmmm.
Like why I have to download 2gigs before I can play BF3 online?
I suppose its the new way of life though.
regrettably it is :( its like a 100 years ago you were not expected to travel 50km to work per day as the means to accomplish that in a reasonable amount of time did not exist. but these days cars allow you to achieve that.
the internet and faster internet at that, is allowing us to download more and more and thus patches has become easier to download.
however, just like some countries are without roads or cars so too some countries are left behind when it comes to the internet and as such we have to make do with what we have...
something that really grinds me is DLC that is already included on the disc. you "buy" the new levels ro items and they are only a few small kb to unlock a huge new part of the game... this feels like they are stealing from me...
