Starting today and tomorrow, your PlayStation Network (PSN) account will be known as a Sony Entertainment Network (SEN) account, but the PlayStation Network service will remain.
It’s been recently reported that the entire PlayStation Network service will undergo a name change, which we now know not to be the case.
The account name that you currently use to log into the PlayStation Network will be renamed, however, but all of your details and information will remain the same. Sony will be making the change in order to make it clearer and easier for people to associate the service with all Sony products and have one log-in.”
When will this name change happen? Starting today in the US and North American regions, and tomorrow in European and other EMEA regions.
What is the Sony Entertainment Network?
Last September we reported on a new initiative by Sony to introduce the Sony Entertainment Network as a catch-all service that would act as a bridge between all of its online services. Under one banner, SEN, Sony will unify its online music, video and gaming offerings with a single online destination (PlayStation Network included), accessible with a single account - the Sony Entertainment Network account.
The change in account name from PSN to SEN will happen via an update to the current terms of service, user agreement and privacy policy.
Sony said in a statement:
“The rebranding of PlayStation Network accounts to Sony Entertainment Network accounts is a change in name only. Your username or password will not change, nor are we asking you to change them.
“On Sony Computer Entertainment’s PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita systems, this rebranding will occur in connection with software updates for these devices. (Note, this change will not be applied to the PSP system at this time.)
“This transition is based on Sony’s goal to enhance its unique digital entertainment offering. As a series of these activities Sony started last September, PlayStation Network will be aligned with Sony Entertainment Network. This helps us get closer to our goal of establishing a global comprehensive network platform of services across games, movies, music and more, all accessible from one convenient account.”
“The Sony Entertainment Network account also enables use of Sony’s compelling non-game services such as Music Unlimited, Video Unlimited and PlayMemories Online (currently called Personal Space) across a variety of network-connected devices.”

I see another large PS Firmware update coming. I'm not so sure about the name....PSN vs SEN.....I see another Question of the day here. What do you prefer PSN or SEN?
But I understand what they doing and it makes sense.
There's been a lot of confusion over this name change, but now that the dust has settled the aim is clear. It's a good idea to unify Sony's services with a single log in account, maybe I'll actually look into the other offerings now.
There is a firmware update tomorrow if I'm not mistaken.
I think that you may not not not be mistaken either (triple negative?).
Will the SEN account then also include all existing SOE accounts?
SEN doesn't sound as cool as PSN imo.
Hmm... that's a very good question. They would aim to unify SOE accounts under SEN as well, I would imagine...
When I get a chance I'll have a look around and see if this issue has been raised yet, thanks! ;)
I just don't like the sound of SEN compared to PSN. People are probably going to verbalize it as "Sin" and that has a negative connotation to it.
It's got that lilt to it, doesn't it? SEN. SIN. Dang.
You can't mistake PSN for anything... or not much, anyway. ;)
Wow. Thanks Oliver. Now I'll think about the PSN everytime I go to the bathroom, lol!
