Last week we tried a new feature called ‘Guess the Game’ where you, our wise and well gamed readers, are presented with two screenshots.
The first screenshot is of a classic game that really tests your knowledge of gaming from times past. The second is a cropping of a more recent news article on El33tonline, to test just how much attention you are paying when trawling around the site for your gaming fix.
Last week’s pictures were easy, it seems. A lot of you recognized Maniac Mansion right away. Maniac Mansion was the first game to use the SCUMM interface that later saw use in such classics as Monkey Island, Indiana Jones and Sam and Max. What is difficult, though, is the game itself. It’s one of the few adventure games that I am yet to finish!
The cropped image was of the sad news that Max Payne 3 has indeed been delayed. We all now need to wait until May before we can shave our heads and shoot bad guys in slow motion while diving behind cover.
Here is the original article and image:
For this week we have two new games waiting for you to guess who they are!
Classic Screenshot
This week’s classic game screenshot might be too easy for some, and others will have a hard time guessing what it is. Personally I had fun with it and have played every single game in the series apart from a recent Xbox LIVE release.
News Cropping

Comments:
The first image as to be Wing Commander. If I'm wrong, then I'll Buy Oliver a Mango juice. the second Image I still have to sit and think about a bit. Looks like....might be wrong....but it might be Soul Caliber V.....but will make sure and let you know.
megaman?
Wing Commander and Mass Effect 3
The second picture is unmistakeably the N7 Alliance Military Badge. Commander GaaTY, reporting for duty, Sir! Can't wait for Mass Effect 3. Collectors Edition Pre-Ordered.
The first picture however... I don't think my gaming years span back that far :/
Being one of the biggest Mass Effect fans out there, the second image has to be Shepard's N7 Badge.
Wing commander. Second one i would have to go with mass effect 3 as well.
I have changed my mind, I was wrong, It's not soul Caliber, its that silly game Mass Effect 3, Everybody else was right about that one. just look at the cover of the game.
ok, i seriously need to up the difficulty on these! no fun if you guys get it within two or three posts :)
do you guys prefer the classic images or the cropping of newer games?
LOL. The crop is actually quite fun.
Ah Wing Commander, one of my first CD-ROM games ever. Can anybody else remember that good old Creative Labs CD-ROM bundle. It included Ultima VIII, Strike Commander and Syndicate Plus? That was way back in 1994 and today we have the shiny new Syndicate. I wonder if there will ever be an Ultima reboot, maybe for consoles - and not another MMO - but a good ol' fashioned hardcore RPG?
@Oltman, I like the classic image more. I like trying to figure out old school games. Makes one appreciate games more today.
