This week we stray a little bit from our previous PC freebies. Not because the PC does not have more great free games, but because a free game on a console is such a rarity and deserves some attention. Doritos Crash Course is one such gem, and unlike a lot of other free games, this one is actually rather good.
If ever you have seen the television show called Wipeout, then you have a good idea of what Crash Course is all about. You control your avatar and need to complete an obstacle course in various countries around the world. It sounds pretty simple, and in theory it is. However, soon enough you will be totally frustrated at having to reset the level again. And again. And again.
Running, jumping, swinging, dodging and sliding your way through the courses is a lot of fun and slicing seconds off your time for a course becomes par for the course. (See what I did there?) Now add online races where the ghost of your competition floats ominously along the course indicating where they are at any particular point in time. This adds great tension and even more frustration.
But through the frustration and hatred for this game’s often crazy difficulty I have come to actually really love it. Every now and then I load it up to see if any of my friends beat my best times, and then the addiction starts all over again.
If for nothing else, you should try this game for the easy, free 200 achievement points that it offers. Now there is a bargain if ever I have heard of one.
You can find Doritos Crash Course on Xbox LIVE Marketplace, or push it to your Xbox from the Xbox.com website found here. Now see if you can beat my scores by adding me as a friend!
