Funcom has formally announced that the developer’s long in development and highly (highly) anticipated massively multiplayer online game, The Secret World, will launch in June this year following a successful period of beta testing and after receiving positive hands-on feedback.
Originally scheduled for an April release, Funcom and publisher EA made the important decision to push the release of The Secret World back in order to invest more development time and apply a few more layers of that all-important ‘polish.’
The Secret World is now due for release on June 19th on PC, and leading up to release, Funcom will conduct more closed beta testing periods and will in addition open up for large-scale public beta events.
If you wish to sign up for the beta, you can head on over to the official Secret World website.
According to Funcom, there are already 750 000 beta testers signed up to put The Secret World through its paces, feedback from whom has been positive in the areas of the game’s core features including “role-playing systems, combat, missions, dungeons, story and immersion.”
You can catch up with the factions of The Secret World, as well as two of the revealed locations of the game, in a selection of extremely impressive CG and gameplay videos below:

media overload! awesome! i was keen on this when i first heard the premise of it, but it then went very quiet. thanks to this i am keen again! yay!
Yeah, sorry - unfortunately we haven't covered The Secret World as much as we would have liked but now we're going to keep a closer eye on it leading up to launch - those monster designs (and even character customisation designs) are cool! The world looks great as well.
I went to a presentation for this at gamescom but it wasn't a very good demo at all, unfortunately. They showed some sort of solo sequence in the game where you're just attacking mobs of enemies so it was kind of underwhelming. The trailers and screens are much more exciting!
This looks really interesting. I'll give this game a look. the visuals look really good. and I can see one getting stuck into this game for hours and days. people will chat to you but you won't hear them......I normally zone out when I really involved in a game. Ask my wife about Battlefield 3.....
This game just seems ... weird :/ I didn't think the premise of modern day 'fantasy' would be very appealing, but I must say it's starting to look quite fancy! Any word on whether it'll be Free to Play?? (Hopeful thinking, I know)
Hmm... I'm not sure if they've announced a monetisation model just yet. If they have, I want to say it's a regular monthly subscription, but I'm not sure.
It'll probably follow the trend: Start out subscription for a few months, then go free-to-play with microtransactions and/or premium memberships for support. Who knows. ;)
