Battlefield Friday War Report: The fun, the betrayal and the awesomeness

Battlefield Friday

Friday marks the granddaddy of gaming evenings for the week - yes I’m talking about Battlefield Friday!

I got online last Friday, started a match and was soon joined by Noodl3 ZA. We started off with a small 1 vs 1 round (even with 22 other players on the map) and we went up against each other - I drew first blood as Noodl3 was running towards cover. A few minutes later he decided to run into my bullets again (he did that a couple of times).

Then El33tOliver joined us and had to wait for us to get into a map not included in ‘Back to Karkand’ (he doesn’t have the map pack - tsk tsk). My second in command, Smuroh, was unable to join us as he had some important business to attend to, but he joined later in the evening.

Soon after El33tOliver joined, I was facing not just him and Noodl3 ZA but I was also going up against Brattex, Griff3nZA and CrazyErick - a bit unfair to them. Griff3nZA still was trying to convince everyone, including himself, that I’ve not taken his tags before in Battlefield 3. But I have.

On Gulf of Oman something strange happened: I got some backup from Cape Town with Fullmetal MDK and Bro October as they joined my squad. They started singing and making these weird, funny noises of excitement, saying how they’re going to get some kills. Shortly after, in the second round on Gulf of Oman, Timjan88 joined the fight.

It was then that Brattex pulled off what must have been the best tank shot ever: I was standing on the roof of one of the tallest buildings in the game and I heard a tank fire off a round in the distance, but didn’t think much of it… and then it hit me, literally. He destroyed most of the roof of the building where I was standing and my lifeless body started to fall. No chance of revival.

You all must be thinking where the ‘betrayal’ came into play during the evening. Well let me tell you the whole story…

Griff3nZA and Fullmetal MDK were on Seine Crossing and Griff3nZA stalked Fullmetal for a good couple of minutes and worked really hard at it. He finally managed to take Fullmetal’s tags. Shortly after, Griff3nZA was screaming on Xbox Live… Fullmetal had taken his tags, but apparently Fullmetal hadn’t worked for them as he spawned right next to Griff3nZA and just stabbed him.

But this is where it gets funny: I was on the same side as Fullmetal and I started to feel really, really bad for Griff3n, so I spawned on Fullmetal and saw him just standing there, busy flying his remote control drone, so I made the announcement that he is standing still so anyone that wants his tags can take them, but my plan failed. Brattex came around the corner, shotgun blazing, and Griff3nZA took Fullmetal’s Tags again. It was all part of the fun.

Battlefield 3 - Tag Kill

I really enjoyed Battlefield Friday this week and I really hope everyone else enjoyed it as well. I lost my tags twice to Noodl3 ZA and CrazyErick, but I know how much joy my tags bring to people so I actually didn’t mind. Thanks to Brattex, CrazyErick, Smuroh and Griff3nZA for giving me my first ever Quad kill, by blowing up the Humvee they were travelling in.

Thanks to everyone that joined:

  • CrazyErick
  • Noodl3 Za
  • Brattex
  • Smuroh
  • El33tOliver
  • Timjan88
  • Fullmetal MDK (sorry about the betrayal)
  • Bro October
  • Griff3nZA

(Let me know if I missed anybody out.)

See you all at the next Battlefield 3 Friday! Feel the Battle!

POItjie

That last image is thing we hate the most, when you busy aiming at someone and the next moment a guy stabs you in the chest. I like being on the giving end not the receiving. Looking forward to this Friday. It's going to be awesome as always.

bronwin october

nice report POItjie, that was one crazy fun night. did you know that Smuroh took my tag? well he deserved it cause he ran along way to get it lol. cant wait for friday ;)

Brattex

I must add to these tales...

Firstly, I appreciate the acknowledgment for a tank shot well done - it wasn't even accidental and watching the corpse drop to the ground for a few seconds was truly satisfying.

If I recall correctly, the Seine Crossing event was a little different to the way you describe it. Since you are on the enemy's team I think it's appropriate for me to relay how the action really went down for our squad...

I was running around in enemy territory dodging flying shrapnel and building debris, trying to find a place to lay low to recover my lost health when out of the corner of my screen I noticed two sneaky looking enemy soldiers. Not one to give up a golden opportunity for a knife-in-the-back-of-the-head kill move, I darted up behind the opponent and gave him a quick RB with my controller. Lo and behold, I snagged Bro October's tags! Huzzah! Breezing to a corner to regain my composure, I plotted my next pounce. Fullmetal MDK in the bag. Two down in twenty seconds. I make even Nicolas Cage look like a slow-poke.

While chanting my joy at this momentous accomplishment I recall Griff3nZA lamenting how he spawned on someone only to be knifed by Fullmetal MDK while in a menu and how it wasn't justified or even a noble kill. While I felt sorry for my fellow squadmate, an unexpected olive branch was offered by POItjie of the opposition. Something to the effect of "I don't know what's going on but Fullmetal MDK is just standing here if you want to knife him" ... after some debate and frustrated dead-ends, I took Griff3nZA by the hand and led him to the location that POItjie was describing. Along the way we noticed an MAV with Fullmetal MDK's name on it so we knew he was flying his model airplane and wouldn't suspect a thing. Besides, he knew POItjie was in position to watch his back so he was covered...

Rounding a corner that was described magnificently by POItjie (even down to the drifting leaves) I spotted an active enemy and with lightning-quick reflexes offloaded two FRAG cartridges into his face. As the rounds traveled through the air I realised, to my dismay, I was about to kill our double-agent. Helplessly trying to undo my actions I realised in despair that the Xbox controller doesn't have a CTRL+Z button and I watched as POItjie went down. Moments later Griff3nZA and I stood on either side of Fullmetal MDK, took a few rude pictures of us posing with his soon-to-be-ex-body, jumped up and down a bit to give him a warning, shining flashlights in his face, all the usual banter (I think we even shouted on our headsets to warn him but since he wasn't in the Xbox LIVE Party I don't think he heard us) before Griff3nZA nonchalantly puffed up his chest, took a step forward, and came back with some dogtags.

In hindsight POItjie deserved the shots to his face. Traitor.

Fullmetal MDK

EXCELLENT!!! i salute the brave soldiers who found much joy in taking my tags that's all part of the game like me taking 12 tags on the night including Griff3n's one, i can't remember if i took Brattex one also but i remember i did kill him a few times on the night. In our squad we were coordinating rolls like me was the spotterwith my MAV, Abzsunofman was giving mortar support and Bro october and Timjan88 was the guys going in arming or defending the Mcoms that's why we have winning ratios in the plus zone because coordinating is the key. @Poitjie the reason why we didn't join the party again after you left we CPT guys are very vocal we laugh, we scream at you if you make crap or being stalked for your tags and we scream French words at each other but the night was fun sorry if you had to be traitor but don't worry it's all good.

Fullmetal MDK

Almost forgot i added Smuroh's tags to my collection after he took Bro's tags.

Smuroh

@bronwin yhea i didnt expect to take your tags and was rather chuffed with myself when i did, but shortly after that your team mate Fullmetal snagged mine...that evening was a battle to remember cant wait for this friday as i need to redeam my tags from fullmetal and i still need griffins tags (i have come close many times).

Griff3nZA [matt_shroom]

@Brattex... A true squad mate. I would happily fall off a building to save your e-life :D [PS Please can u train Cattex a tiny bit more :P]

@POItjie Good report. Fail to see your proof of u taking my tags as it has never happened EVAR. So it is all hersay until I see your knife in my chest.

Are we going to do like a stats ranking every month or what? Coz I have been working hard on my knife kills ;)

@Smuroh... LIES!! I SAY!

Smuroh

@Griff3n your tags shall be mine along with Fullmetal's
