The US version of Catherine was released on the PlayStation Store on Tuesday, so naturally I couldn’t resist picking it up for a mere $39.99.
It wasn’t long before I received my first bronze trophy for the game - albeit in Japanese! I searched online to find the reason behind this oddity and came across a few other gamers complaining about the exact same issue.
To ensure that you get Catherine’s English trophy list you must have your PS3’s system language set to English (United States) when you first boot up the game, which is when a game’s trophies are installed. If your system is set to any other language - even English (United Kingdom) - the game will install the Japanese trophy list when you run it for the first time.
If you find yourself in the same boat as me and have the Japanese trophy list for Catherine sitting on your console, then you’ll need to follow these steps to install English trophies for the game:
- set your system language to English (United States)
- back up your saves to a USB flash drive and delete your user profile (found on the extreme left of the XMB)
- create a new profile and sign in with the same account you had linked to your old one
- boot up Catherine
Let us know if this method works for you, and be sure to always set your system language to English (United States) before playing any US release which originated in Japan.

Comments:
That sounds like too much work for me, I'll wait for the retail release for the Xbox 360. I just want to know if the game is as awesome as it looks?? I can't wait to get this and the other million games I want.
it's most definitely awesome! i'm loving the art design, music and story so far. it's like being in an interactive anime which explores philosophical issues related to life and relationships...
that sounds just like my type of game. I'm a big Anime fan.
