Sony confirms that new PS Vita releases will cost less on PSN

PS Vita Box Cropped

Those of us who’ve been following the PS Vita closely have long suspected that new game releases will cost less on PSN than they will at retail. This is currently the case in Japan where new PSV titles are up to 20% cheaper on PSN than they are in the shops.

Sony has finally gone on record to confirm that we will receive similar discounts on digital PSV titles in the West. This is great news for gamers looking to pick up a title at launch, and who don’t want to sell the game down the line (a practice which is restricted by digital downloads).

Are you tempted to buy the discounted, digital versions of new Vita releases? Let us know in the comments.

This is awesome and everything, but I don't think I'll be buying that many titles off the Store, as I like to have a game in my collection that people can see, I don't mind if its a mini game or a Download only title, but if there is a retail version then I'll go with that one. I know it sounds silly but that is just how I am, everyone has seen my small collection of games. I'm working on it to upgrade my shelf and will send in a updated image. Looking forward to buying one of these units in the future.

I will be using the PSN for games. It's cheaper in the long run, albeit the initial outlay for a decent sized memory card (yeah, thanks for that, Sony!). A 20% discount on Uncharted is just what the doctor ordered.

I'll only turn to the store if i can't find disc versions anywhere, like i had to do with Dissidia and Monster Hunter Freedom Unite. I rather have a physical collection than a digital one. Covers look so much better :)

I used to be like POItjie, except in a more extreme manner: my lack of decent Internet and my love of looking at game covers was the main reason why :P But then I discovered the amazing prices you can find online (as well as the thinness of my wallet) and now most of the games I buy are digital downloads ;)

This sounds good in theory, but the piece I read said that a lot of games would be 10% cheaper than the RRP on PSN (eg a $50 game would be $45). This doesn't really help, seeing as nothing gets sold at RRP unless you are trying to get ripped off (that $50 RRP game would be being sold at $40 most places), so I have a feeling that it might not work out as well as we're hoping. Time will tell.
