What’s been the big rumour doing the rounds this day, January 6th 2012?
Why, nothing less than news surrounding the formal announcements of Sony and Microsoft’s next consoles at E3 this year.
Unfortunately, these reports have no basis in official information and, as with all good rumours, have been formed from unknown, but ‘trusted’ sources.
Industry site MCV was the latest to dish details on the supposed reveals of the PlayStation 4 and the next Xbox console at E3 this year, which would mark the first time three manufacturers provided showings of their hardware at the same event, with Nintendo planning on ‘re-unveiling’ the Wii U at this year’s show.
With the next generation of consoles expected to hit in late 2013 or even early 2014, it would make sense for Sony and Microsoft to announce their next consoles in June this year to start ramping up excitement for their offerings, but no concrete information (such as pricing, launch dates and exact game line-ups) are expected.
Do you think E3 in June 2012 is when Sony and Microsoft will start making consumers aware of the PlayStation 4 and the next Xbox? Sony in particular might not want to remove focus from its PS Vita and PS3 line-up, while Microsoft might be keen to continue to focus on Kinect and online applications on Xbox 360.

Although the announcement of the next gen consoles at E3 would be AMAZING, I'm actually enjoying the current gen and don't really think we need to move on yet.
Are we ready for it? There is still so much that the current gen has to offer and with our huge price tag who would be able to afford it?
I think they might announce them, but won't see them for a couple of years. Just look at Kinect, they announced it at E3 but only 3 years later it got released. Will just have to wait and see.
I think it's a year to early for Sony to announce a new console it will take away to much focus from the Vita as for Microsoft i think it will happen this year with release late next year.
Are you guys serious ?? Xbox 360 and PS3 is dead we need something new.......
Just to clarify things, only Nintendo will be showing hardware that you will be able to buy this year (the Wii-U, and even that will only be at the end of the year). MS's next Xbox (Infinite Loop, I think the project is called) will probably be announced, but definitely won't be available before 2012, maybe even early 2013. We know very little about this rumoured PS4, it's probably going to be the vaguest of the announced hardware.

I think its way too early for anything regarding the new xbox, they have invested way too much time and money into the current one, the PS might have something new but i dont think it will be an updated console, like POItjie said we might get a hint of whats to come nothing more.
