The PS Vita’s launch lineup is one of the longest and most impressive we’ve ever seen, but many of the titles on offer are either ports or handheld adaptations of games already available on PS3.
Gravity Rush, however, represents something fresh and exciting for seasoned gamers. This action-adventure title from SCE Japan Studio was originally scheduled to be released during the PS Vita’s ‘launch window’ in the US, but has since been pushed forward to launch day - February 22nd.
The SCEA fact sheet which provides the revised release date also offers a great summary of the game’s story:
“Told in a stunning graphic art style, Gravity Rush follows Kat, young girl struggling to regain her lost memories in a world unravelling before her eyes. A chance encounter with a mysterious black cat gives her the power to control gravity. She must use this new found power to save herself and Hekseville, a futuristic metropolis, from the Gravity Storms ravaging the environment. Kat matches wits with an unknown evil only known as “Nevi,” who conspires with the government and thwarts Kat at every turn. Throughout her journey, Kat travels through vibrant environments and discovers just how powerful she can be..”
Gravity Rush will also be a launch title in Europe, but unlike North America, will only be available as a digital download from the PlayStation Store.
There is currently an English demo of Gravity Rush on the Hong Kong PS Store if you’re lucky enough to already own a PS Vita.
We’ll be bringing you plenty of new PS Vita coverage over the next few weeks as we approach the system’s much-anticipated launch. Until then, check out one of the latest trailers for Gravity Rush below:
