After two incredibly successful events held in November and December last year, Glenn Alexander and his team at 2upGamers once again hosted a brilliant gaming evening this past week in Cape Town, filled to the brim with games, interesting guest speakers, prizes, food, drink and, most importantly, friends.
The Third Encounter was an absolute blast!
El33tonline was fortunate enough to attend our second consecutive 2upGamers event on January 20th, graciously hosted by the academy of digital arts, Friends of Design in Cape Town.
El33tonline Editor-in-Chief Lisa and I appeared at Friends of Design on Bree Street a little after 6pm to set up and help out where we could, but Glenn and the team were already cranking at full speed to get everything ready for the 7pm start – dozens of seats and a collection of game stations waited in great anticipation!
2upGamers’ Third Encounter began proper a little after 7pm and Glenn welcomed all of the attendees (over 100 of them!) before introducing the evening’s guest speakers, as well as Friends of Design’s Eva Csernyanszky and 2upGamers organisers Ashley O’Neill and Hylton Arendse.
Andrew Royal from South African online retailer TakeALot was at Third Encounter to talk about the growth and community of the site, while EA’s Brad Pidgeon from Australia provided an excellent presentation on EA’s future games, EA South Africa and the importance of community.

Of course, El33tonline was in attendance and Lisa gave away an ADSL router and a R750 shopping voucher sponsored by South African ADSL service provider Afrihost, while special spot prizes also found new homes in a quick-fire round of giveaways.
Once the presentations were complete and a bunch of great prizes had made their way into the collection of attendees, the gamers made their way to the stations to play FIFA 12, Fight Night Champion and Need For Speed: The Run, and they also grabbed a few drinks and slices of delicious pizza on the way!
Attendees also took the opportunity to spit some hectic game with one another, and at any time during the evening you would be able to hear in-depth discussions on the latest games and much more.
Thanks to 2upGamers and Friends of Design for hosting such an amazing gaming evening! It was awesome meeting all of the gamers and hearing some very interesting presentations!

hahaha 1st half finalbankai was down 4-1 but almost made a come back in the last 10min to end the game in a 4-3 loss

Another great night. Bit sad that the next one is only in March, but I suppose it gives them more time to plan an even better event.
Maybe its a good thing for it to be in march, as I might be able to attend in March. will have a Chat with my financial Advisor (WIFE) and see if I can make it there. I know my buddy Smuroh will be tagging along.

Thanks Hylton you guys and Glenn has once again Rocked Cape town with a great show. I think we p33ps must try to promote our regional shows on radio also to draw up more support and maybe get some sponsors via radio interviews.
