We’ve brought you Microsoft’s response to The NPD Group’s analysis of videogame sales in the US for December 2011, now let’s turn our attention to what Sony has to say about the PS3’s performance for the month.
According to Sony the “PlayStation 3 closed out a banner 2011 with a bang, showing increases in hardware, software and peripherals year to date.”
Although the publisher did not share any hardware figures in their statement, through the use of some keen investigation skills we know that the PS3 sold 936 000 units. As a manner of reference the Xbox 360 sold 1.7 million units and was the best-selling console for December 2011.
Sony’s press release continued: “As we reported earlier this week, consumers flocked to PlayStation consoles and handhelds this holiday season with more than 6.5 million units sold worldwide.”
“With the highly anticipated U.S. launch of PlayStation Vita on February 22, featuring the biggest and best launch lineup across the history of PlayStation platforms, 2012 is already shaping up to be another exciting year for PlayStation.”

....with a bang! is maybe the right or wrong words. last year around november/december I knew of 6 yes....6 PS3's that died or just went pop.....maybe it was the heat to blame. I like the PS3 its just the business model etc behind it that bugs me, and don't get me started on the controller and all the Updates......
Package arriving at Sony HQ opened by CEO inside Xbox360 with a note Thank you for helping us be number one in the US,( Andrew thinks WTF )meanwhile at Nintendo HQ a package is also delivered inside the package is red cap with the note "It's me Mario gone to work for Microsoft TaTa".
Well, my PS3 died with a 'beep,' last year, not so much a 'bang.' ;)
I was expecting Sony to not have anything extremely positive to say about December 2011 in the US, but this language (and the numbers) is good.
PS3 games and PS Vita, plus more PS Move games all add up to a stellar 2012 for Sony!
Haha, nice Fullmetal! ;)
"They're giving me a big-a salary, woo-hoo!"
Sony had a good concept and then just messed it up, this could have been an amazing console just like the PS2 but they just dont seem to learn.
