Sony's Kaz Hirai puts PlayStation 4 announcement rumours to rest

Kaz HiraiThe recent buzz around videogame internet circles has been the reported planned announcements of both the next Xbox from Microsoft, as well as the PlayStation 4 from Sony, at E3 in June this year.

At least one of these consoles will definitely not see a showing at the expo.

Following comments by Sony Computer Entertainment president and Group CEO Andrew House, top Sony executive Kaz Hirai emphatically denied reports of the PS4 announcement.

Speaking at a press event during CES 2012 this week, Hirai said:

“Andy (House) is absolutely right in that we are not making any announcements at E3. I’ve always said a 10-year life cycle for PS3, and there is no reason to go away from that.”

Well, that puts a damper on things, doesn’t it?

We still have the ‘re-unveiling’ of Nintendo’s Wii U to look forward to at E3 this year, and rumours still persist regarding the chance of an announcement of the next Xbox from Microsoft.

Will we see this exciting turn of events?

Well, denial is the new confirmation at the moment. We'll see what happens.

Their 10 year cycle is going to be difficult if the PS3 is forced to compete with a brand new Xbox in the last few years of it.

The PS3 is only turning six years old later this year and for Sony to announce a new console now will be the death blow for there 10 year plan.It would most likely happen next year at E3 with release early 2014. I also saw another rumour on one of this sites that if Sony doesn't recoup there full R&D budget they spend on the PS3 that there will be no D in R&D for there next console project. Personally i think this rumour was thought up by a critic like Patcher.

I think they are focusing on the PS Vita right now. and will only announce a PS4 next year at E3. But you never know, they might just surprise or tease it at E3 this year. I think Microsoft will also announce a new xbox this year or the next, but we will only see it in 2014. At CES 2012 Steve Ballmer was ask what is new at microsoft and what they working on trying to get him to say a new Xbox as the question was asked just after the Xbox showcase. He said Windows Windows Windows and other stuff....so we will have to wait and see what happens.

We wont see anything new, ive said it before, these companies have placed way too much on the current consoles to go and throw it way now, i think microsoft are going to move into getting the xbox and PC working more together, as for sony they have the VITA at the moment and are pretty much dominating the handheld gaming market.
