As if Dark Souls wasn’t challenging enough, players of the Japanese version released exclusively on PlayStation 3 last Thursday have had to tackle the game without any of its ameliorating co-op elements due to a number of bugs which caused freezing issues during online play.
Developer From Software reacted to this unfortunate situation by closing down the game’s servers and asking users to play offline while the issue was being resolved. Thankfully gamers chomping at the bit for some online assistance haven’t had to wait too long, as the developer announced that they’ll release patch 1.02 this afternoon to resolve the freezing issue, and bring the servers back online at the same time.
Dark Souls will be released on Xbox 360 and PS3 in North America and PAL territories next week, on October 4th and 7th respectively. Don’t be surprised if there’s a modestly-sized day-one patch to download which addresses the bugs outlined above.
I personally can’t wait to explore the treacherous nooks and crannies of this “spiritual successor” to the acclaimed action RPG Demon’s Souls, and thus next Friday cannot arrive fast enough.

The only game I've pre-ordered this year! Cannot wait to hate again!
there's tons of new footage doing the rounds on the net at the moment, and a 24-hour live stream coming up later this week! which console version are you getting and where are you pre-ordering from? i see the ps3 special edition is R499 on kalahari - thinking of going with that...
Ordered the PS version from BTgames, special edition. It is 20 bucks more expensive, but I live in Polokwane so I won't be getting my game on release day if I order from Kalahari. Or rather, the chances are slim.
I've began to stock up on prozac and Camomile Tea to ensure that I don't get a heart attack or depressed from dying once too often.
I've decided that I will play the game co-op exclusively with one of my friends this time. Demon's Souls was an awesome experience but we could stop talking about the game with each other on Skype, so wasn't very productive. If we co-op, at least I'll get more work done the following day :D
okay, cool! i wish dark souls had voice chat as it would make life easier when co-op-ing with friends. i'm sure the xbox 360 version will support party chat but i am weary of that version because ps3 was from software's lead platform and very little footage of that build has been shown thus far. i'll be interested to see how many GBs dark souls comes to on the blu-ray because apparently it's a much bigger game and has some pretty sweet-looking textures. demon's souls had quite long load times but that's understandable since it was based around a hub. this time it's an open world, so hopefully from software are using an advanced streaming technique like the one used in god of war iii. no load times except the initial one when you load up your save will make me happy!(-:
Party chat not supported, will boot you to the menu. Read somewhere on Kotaku today about it and the 360 version.
thanks for that! another reason to stick with the ps3 version - i hope this time we can play with people from america and asia, as there are some hardcore japanese players which would be great to have on your side during a killer boss battle(_*)
