The last couple of days have seen a number of significant PS Vita announcements, but the most important of these if you’re a fan of RPGs has got to be the news that Atlus is embellishing Persona 4 for Sony’s hot new handheld.
Persona 4 slipped under the radar of many gamers because it was released on PlayStation 2 at a time when most people had already moved on to next-gen platforms (i.e. 2009). Despite this, it garnered a heap of critical acclaim and left Persona fans hungry for more.
Although Persona 5 is still some ways off, Atlus has made a large portion of these fans extremely happy by announcing that ‘Persona 4: The Golden’ will get a spring 2012 launch in Japan.
This remastered version of Persona 4 for PS Vita will feature new characters and music tracks, additional voice acting and animated scenes, as well as other enhancements. There’ll even be an option to request other players’ help while exploring dungeons.
Looking at screenshots for the game, it seems as if its PS2 visuals are going to remain largely intact for the PS Vita version. While this will hardly tax the hardware, the game’s vibrant anime visuals should translate well to the Vita’s beautiful OLED screen.
We’ll keep you updated on all the latest Persona 4: The Golden news, and hopefully Atlus give us cause for celebration by announcing an English version soon. For more handheld Persona goodness, be sure to check out my review of Persona 3 Portable for PSP.
