Twisted Metal delayed into 2012, extra 'polish' necessary

Twisted Metal - Sweet Tooth

In what will be a bit of a blow for those of us looking forward to the next big entry in the brutal vehicle combat game series, Twisted Metal, co-founder of developer Eat Sleep Play (and game development luminary) David Jaffe has just announced that the studio’s Twisted Metal for PlayStation 3 has been delayed into 2012, past its original early October release.

Writing on the PlayStation Blog, Jaffe tried to soften the news by revealing that Twisted Metal will be making an appearance at both gamescom in Germany later this month, as well as at PAX Prime, with a new level titled ‘Thrills and Spills Amusement Park.’

“It’s one of our favorite all time Twisted Metal levels,” Jaffe wrote, “and it’s filled with the over the top destruction, strategic level choices, and twisted humor that fans of the series have come to love and expect.”

Also to be revealed for the first time ever is the Team Hunted mode, which will be unveiled at gamescom 2011.

David Jaffe“Ok, so now… the bad news,” Jaffe continued. “Or at least the ‘news that seems bad at first but after you read the rest of my post I’m sure you’ll agree that it’s actually fantastic news’ news.”

Jaffe then went on to announce that Twisted Metal is going to miss its announced release date of October 4th in the US, and the game is “going to be late.”

“Ugh! I know, I know,” Jaffe lamented. “A lot of dedicated, supportive, passionate Twisted Metal fans have been waiting for the return of Calypso’s demented contest for a long time but the truth is: we’re just not ready yet.”

The delay for Twisted Metal is down to the need for that magical extra layer of ‘polish’ that developers love to lather on their games, but Jaffe says it’s for a good reason:

“… we plan on treating you – the kind folks who play our game (and pay our bills) – like the VIPs that you are. You only deserve our best and we appreciate your understanding as we take a little more time to guarantee that our best is what we deliver.”

“Twisted Metal for PS3 will ship early 2012,” concluded Jaffe. “Stay tuned for more details.”

Sorry to break this news to you, John. We know you were looking forward to it!

In my best Lil Jon Voice, "WHAT?!"

I'm actually ok with this. I was a little concerned with how I was going to play this and Arkham City. And I really want this game to deliver.

Great, it all works out then! ;)

I was admittedly a little iffy on Twisted Metal to begin with, but this move shows the team's commitment to delivering a quality game - definitely added to my list of games to watch out for in 2012!

Well, I may have said this before but the original Twisted Metal is the game that made me purchase a Playstation to begin with. I have so many fond memories of playing those games with my family and friends that I will always be a fan. And I'm also from the same state as David Jaffe, so I have to support his work :)

Damn! Was really looking forward to this, but similar to the Vita release, it might be better for me :P

Also, this will probably be good for them. TM was going to be released in the middle of some games that would have definitely drawn attention away from it.

With all the great games coming out in 2012 it will be very interesting but I can already see ME3 taking best game title
