The Gunstringer moseys onto store shelves September 16th

The Gunstringer Banner

The Gunstringer is definitely one of the most interesting and entertaining games I’ve ever played on Xbox 360. Filled with wacky humour and boasting an attractive, cartoony visual style, it’s a game which is all about having fun in front of your Kinect.

Xbox 360 South Africa recently announced that the game will be available at retailers from September 16th. It will come with codes for a free digital copy of Fruit Ninja Kinect as well as the first bit of DLC for The Gunstringer - “Wavy Tube Man Chronicles”.

The Gunstringer Boxart

If you want to get a feel for what the game entails then I recommend downloading The Gunstringer demo which is currently exclusive to Gold members on the Xbox Live Marketplace. The demo features two levels in which you control the titular undead sheriff, who is represented as a marionette on a theatre stage in front of a live audience. For the most part, your left hand controls his movements and your right hand aims his gun. There are also some 2D platforming sections in the demo where your only concern is successfully timing his jumps over logs and chasms.

Feel free to read through all our previous coverage of The Gunstringer and let us know if you’ll be getting it come September 16th.

Downloading the demo right now, the idea always sounded interesting, but explanations on how game works haven't really sold me, but I have heard a local Xbox reviewer claiming this to be one of his top 3 Kinect experiences.

PS: The bonus of getting Fruit Ninja Kinect cannot be underestimated, the game is crazy fun.

the demo does a great job of giving you a taste of how the kinect-based gameplay works, although i've heard in the final game there will be on-rails sections where you have a gun in each hand. there's also support for 2-player co-op in the final release. this is why every game should have a demo! it certainly makes writing news articles a lot easier when i've already played the title in demo form.

Thanks for that, looking forward to playing it, hope this 384kb can get the job done before the end of my workday :P

Yeah demos are great. At least we can download them for most games prior to release now, back in the "old days" you had to take your chance with buying new games as you only saw print reviews later on and there were no demos available.

Also look out for our hands-on preview of the game, coming soon!

PS. Love the heading Tom!

yup - i remember when i used to be prepared to pay close to R100 for the official uk playstation magazine just so i could get my hands on 8 or so of the latest ps1 demos. i played the one for metal gear solid countless times until it finally came out in south africa. oliver got the full game months before this because he had a ntsc ps1...o_O i'm glad those of us in pal territories no longer have to wait ages before japanese or american games are released here. look at final fantasy xiii-2 - we only have to wait about two months longer than the japanese do!

Goodness.... the MGS1 demo, replayed that countless times myself :D

Sigh ... I think I might just have to start saving up cash to get Kinect ...
