It’s not very often that a game remastered in HD receives a demo on the PlayStation Network so the release of one for God of War: Origins Collection is something to get excited about.
The demo will be available on the North American PS Store a little later today (around 11pm South African time), although it’s exclusive to Plus members until September 6th. It will feature a gameplay scenario from God of War: Ghost of Sparta.
Origins Collection includes both God of War PSP games (Chains of Olympus and Ghost of Sparta) fully remastered for PS3 with 1080P 60fps visuals, full stereoscopic 3D support and trophies. The game’s developer Ready At Dawn even went so far as to re-render all the cut-scenes in full HD - a feature which is sadly lacking in many HD collections (including the remastered versions God of War I and II).
The game will be released in Blu-ray form on September 13th in North America for $39.99. It’s unclear when the compilation will receive a digital download release on PSN or if it will be released in PAL territories at some stage.
A very interesting developer diary for the collection can be found here.
Will you be checking out the demo later today? This is the first time we’re getting to play remastered PSP titles on PS3 so I know I’m looking forward to seeing how successfully they translate to the big screen!

I'm a huge fan of the God of War series, but it's hard for me to get excited about playing through something I've already played through a couple of times. Especially with a $40 price tag attached. Not to mention the fact that you could completely finish either game in about eight hours.
i also think the price is a bit steep. at least the demo costs nothing(-:
So, I thought maybe I should stop being a silent reader :D. I can't wait for this! Price is quite steep, but with all the amazing releases coming up, by the time I get time for this, I'm sure it'll be cheap cheap.
welcome to the fray Thanticore! hopefully the two games will be available separately on the ps store like god of war i and ii are. it's generally agreed that ghost of sparta is the better of the two... i'm gonna check out the demo in a short while - it's always interesting to see games i've played in the past remastered in hd. can't wait for the final fantasy x, x-2 and xii hd collection - hopefully it'll be playable on both ps3 and vita!
Are they actually doing a remake of those games?!? That would be totally AWESOME! I loved Final Fantasy XII but couldn't finish it due to some stupid strange random controller problem 35hours in. I was so angry! If they remake it Sony will be my official favourite company! (also never finished FF X-2, still got it though. Never played FF X. In fact, I never finished a single FF game in my life. Think I should get my FF XIII discs out).
As far as HD remakes go... They're fun and awesome but ... rarely pretty. The massive resolution lets you see every single jagged edge. Take the Prince of Persia remakes as an example: the game benefited from the "faded glowy" graphics as it hid the jagged edges. Put it on the PS3, take away the faded-glowy-ness and ramp up the resolution and you see every single blemish there is to see.
Though, the God of War people did write a semi-new engine to make the game look better. So, I'm sure it won't look as bad as PoP, or even God of War 1 + 2.
square enix hasn't announced anything regarding a final fantasy hd collection but i'm sure they're thinking about it. they might also do one for kingdom hearts. hd collections on ps3 should employ proper anti-aliasing techniques to get rid of those jaggies. obviously ubisoft didn't take enough care with the prince of persia one. i'm going to try out the GoW demo this morning to see how much difference the re-written engine makes for ghost of sparta.
sometimes you need to spend a good ten or so hours grinding in final fantasy games but ultimately it's worth it to see the always awesome cg endings. i've finished final fantasy vii - xiii (excluding xi) and they can all be completed in under 40 hours each - so it's not that bad if you're willing to play one game over a couple of weeks(-:
