When I personally first saw the ‘Commando’ perk in action in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, I thought it was ultra cool – who wouldn’t want to instantaneously close the gap between yourself and an enemy to perform a swift and effective melee kill?
That was when I saw a video of this ability. In-game, this perk is a little less ‘cool’ and a lot more ‘maddening’ as expert Modern Warfare 2 players made quick work of my virtual self by leaping at me (as if from nowhere) in a flurry of brutal, physical attacks.
Not fun.
In a recent Twitter posting, Infinity Ward creative strategist Robert Bowling has confirmed that the studio’s next game, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, won’t include this particular perk, while simultaneously ensuring we’re aware that melee in the game has been “balanced.” From the tweet (referring to melee):
“Its been balanced, plus Commando is no longer in the game. Beyond that, you’ll have to wait and see.”
This information confirms what Bowling said earlier in July, simply stating:
“There is no commando in [Modern Warfare 3]”
Is this good news for you, or have you enjoyed using the Commando perk in the past? What other perks do you think shouldn’t be carried over from Modern Warfare 2, and which should definitely make the cut?
