E3 2011 was a new beginning for Codemasters’ next first-person shooter, Bodycount. Previous showings of the game were intriguing but showed nothing that we hadn’t already done in the game’s progenitor, Black, and didn’t represent anything more unique than pure arcade action seen a game like Bulletstorm.
Thanks to new reveals at this year’s E3, however, Bodycount very suddenly became an exciting proposition with its focus on gunplay, destructible environments and massive explosions!
With the release of a huge batch of new screenshots for Bodycount, new story and gameplay details have also emerged to fill us in on a whole batch of details:
Bodycount tasks you with hunting down and eliminating ‘The Target,’ an evil enemy that may be at the heart of a global, clandestine power struggle that rages under the guise of wars in Africa and Asia.
Using Bodycount’s range of explosive weaponry to shred the world to pieces and destroy enemies in quick succession, you’ll be able chain kills together and perform skill kills to earn power-ups to improve your capabilities for devastation, with the option to call in air strikes, upgrade your ammo and use adrenalin shots to keep yourself alive during intense firefights.
The ‘shreddable’ world of Bodycount isn’t just for aesthetic pleasure, either, as you’ll soon learn the value in tearing a hole in a wall to create flanking opportunities, while removing an enemy’s cover with a hail of bullets and explosives is a sure way to catch him off guard.
While the singleplayer offering sounds exciting enough, Bodycount will also allow you to replay levels from the campaign to compare your enemy killing prowess with friends on an online leaderboard, while a number of co-operative and competitive multiplayer modes are also on the cards.
