It’s been revealed that Super Meat Boy developer Edmund McMillen is indeed working on a new game to follow up his and Tommy Refenes’ challenging PC and Xbox 360 platformer.
So what’s McMillen working on? A top-down roguelike shooter called ‘The Binding of Isaac,’ coming soon to PC via Steam.
In a blog post, McMillen described the game thus:
“Isaac is a roguelike shooter based on the dungeon structure of Zelda (nes). At its core it controls like Smash TV / Robotron in a randomly generated semi RPG world filled with powerups items and special abilities.”
The blog post continues on to explain that, despite the ‘roguelike’ description, The Binding of Isaac will not feature a traditional levelling system, but will instead focus on the use of over seventy special items (not counting pickups) that players are able to buy and attain through the game’s (more than) six dungeons.
