At this point in time, the Call of Duty franchise is a force of nature and has grown in leaps and bounds with every iteration of the series as each subsequent entry has gone on to outsell the last.
The biggest surprise came last year when Treyarch’s Call of Duty: Black Ops went on to break videogame sales records and outsell Infinity Ward’s Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 (which had previously broken sales records itself) with 5.6 million units sold on day one of availability in the US and the UK, generating $360 million in revenue.
Activision has been coy on the chances of Infinity Ward’s Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 outselling Black Ops on day one of launch this year when that game releases on November 8th, but UK retailer GAME has provided a clue about how the battle for sales record supremacy will go down this year.
Speaking to industry site MCV, GAME Group MD Tom Devine commented:
“Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 pre-orders are already tracking significantly ahead of Call of Duty: Black Ops at the same time last year… We know that the Call of Duty brand and franchise has the most amazing fan-base and we’ve got some great surprises lined up for those who pre-order with us. We’re looking forward to an incredible launch on November 8th.”
GAME predicts that Modern Warfare 3 will ‘shatter’ all pre-order records in the UK by November to become the retailer’s best-selling title, ever.
Have you pre-ordered Modern Warfare 3? Waiting until ‘Day One’? Will you be indulging in Infinity Ward and Activision’s latest blockbuster shooter this year?

Comments:
It would be interesting to know how many pre-orders Battlefield 3 has.
Still think MW3 will outsell BF3, don't think reviews will impact the outcome of that at all.
That would be incredibly interesting - I'm sure publishers will start 'encouraging' retailers like GameStop to start giving us an indication of the comparative pre-orders for both games, even with hints as to which game is doing better than the other.
Like I said, Call of Duty is a force of nature - it's going to outsell every other game releasing this year, and has a high likelihood of breaking sales records again.
That being said, Battlefield 3's sales aren't going to be too shabby either - it might not be a close fight, but it will be a bloodbath.
Looking forward to it! ;)
