Activision Publishing has announced a brand new convention scheduled for the beginning of September this year in Los Angeles where rabid Call of Duty fans will be able to participate in tournaments, visit developer discussion panels, enjoy “AAA” live entertainment and go hands-on with Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 multiplayer, all while supporting war veterans through Activision’s Call of Duty Endowment fund.
Called the ‘Call of Duty XP’ event, 2011’s show will take place from September 2nd to the 3rd this year in Los Angeles, at a 12-acre compound. Of note is the fact that this event will run over Labor Day weekend in the US, while the compound will be able to host 6000 people all chomping to take part in one of the first showings of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 multiplayer, the new Spec Ops cooperative mode, as well as the online Call of Duty Elite service.
Called a “celebration for the Call of Duty community,” Call of Duty XP 2011 will also play host to a whopping $1 million Call of Duty tournament put together by Activision and the event’s main sponsor, Xbox 360. If you would like to get into this tournament for a shot at the prize money, Activision and its “network of global partners” will be holding Call of Duty: Black Ops multiplayer qualifiers prior to the show to select participants.
If you don’t qualify for the tournament initially, you’ll still be able to try to enter at the Call of Duty XP event itself, and if you can’t make it to the event but would like to drink in the atmosphere, you can watch the goings-on through a constant stream of video, photo and social media information.
Those of you hopeful to attend Call of Duty XP 2011 will need to keep an eye on July 19th when two-day pass tickets go on sale for $150, and while that price may seem pretty steep (and it is), Activision says that 100 percent of ticket sales will go towards The Call of Duty Endowment, “a non-profit, public benefit corporation that seeks to help veterans transition to civilian life, find work and establish careers, and assist other organizations that provide career training and job placement for veterans.”
Not only that, but a bunch of activities and entertainment is planned for the event including a paintball firefight set on a life-sized Call of Duty multiplayer map, real-life speed-runs of the infamous ‘Pit’ level from Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, as well as the following:
- Tournaments and prizes for the hardcore and casual fan alike
- Discussion panels and Q&A with Call of Duty developers
- Onsite Call of Duty armory and museum
- AAA live entertainment
- More attractions to be announced
You can visit the official Call of Duty XP 2011 event website to keep an eye on where and when those tickets go on sale.
