Cyberpunk is a genre which is not often expressed in the visual arts. There are plenty of cyberpunk novels out there, but turn your gaze toward film and video games and there’s little in the way of homage to this neon-lit and morally decrepit depiction of the near future.
The highly anticipated Deus Ex: Human Revolution is out next month, and the latest developer diary clues us in on the state of the world in 2027. This imagined future is looking a little bleak as the widespread use of mechanical augmentations incites a war between people opposed to the technology and the police.
The game’s environments will have plenty of objects to interact with, such as emails and electronic newspapers to read, and screenshots and concept art reveal a world brimming with details that a cyberpunk fan such as myself is sure to appreciate.
Deus Ex: Human Revolution - Behind 2027 Part I: World
Will Human Revolution be able to somehow surpass the brilliance of the first Deus Ex? We’ll be able to judge for ourselves when it releases for PS3, Xbox 360 and PC on 23 August in North America and 26 August in PAL territories.
