Konami has today unleashed a Silent Hill news deluge to coincide with its showing of Silent Hill Downpour at E3 2011 this week.
Thanks to that showing, we’ve managed to collect together gameplay videos and brand new screenshots for the horror-filled third-person action game, but more than that we’ve received word that Konami intends to release something called ‘The Silent Hill HD Collection,’ as well as ‘Silent Hill: Book of Memories’ for Sony’s PlayStation Vita handheld.
Let’s first talk about Silent Hill HD Collection, which will release this year for PlayStation 3 and includes Silent Hill 2 and Silent Hill 3 in one package, but renewed with enhancements and high-definition graphics. According to Konami, the games have been “completely reworked, with all-new voice talent, and the addition of PlayStation Network Trophies.”
Silent Hill: Book of Memories, on the other hand, is to be the very first Konami title to be released on Sony’s upcoming PlayStation Vita handheld. Book of Memories will feature a brand new story and soundtrack, and is said to link together past and present events in the Silent Hill series in one game.
“Working with a friend,” writes Konami, “players are left stranded in Silent Hill, where they must work together in order to escape the town and its inhuman denizens.”
But what about Silent Hill Downpour?
As previously revealed, players will take on the role of convicted felon Murphy Pendleton, who finds himself stranded in Silent Hill after the vehicle transporting him and other convicts to a secure facility crashes at the edge of the town.
Soon enough, Pendleton comes face to face with the mystery and horror of the town of Silent Hill, while exploring as-yet-unseen areas.
Silent Hill Downpour will release at the end of this year on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, and will include stereoscopic 3D support. Check out the rest of the new screens below, and watch a few gameplay demonstration videos to clue yourself into the extreme creepiness of the game:
