E3 2011: Capcom news round-up: Asura’s Wrath, Devil May Cry and the Dogma of zombies

Capcom Logo We can always rely on Capcom to bring a taste of Japan with it to E3, and this year was no different.

Over the course of E3 2011, the publisher demonstrated a range of games due for release both this year and next, and four of those titles caught our attention and throttled it enough for us to investigate further:

Dragon’s Dogma looks like Capcom’s direct response to the West’s apparent affinity for Lord of the Rings-esque fantasy and seems to feature all of the classic tropes of this genre, with mythological creatures to fight, the standard set of magic using, sword swinging and arrow shooting characters, a vast land in peril and a semi-Medieval time period setting.

It still remains to be seen how Capcom handles this genre, but the company’s dedication to the game is clear: With Capcom’s largest ever development team working on it, and members of previous Devil May Cry and Resident Evil teams providing assistance, Dragon’s Dogma has every chance of shaping up to be something spectacular, especially if the screenshots and gameplay videos emerging from E3 2011 are anything to go by!

Take one part God of War, one part Shadow of the Colossus, and ten parts insanity, and you’ll be somewhere along the way to understanding Asura’s Wrath, a new action game from Capcom.

Without actually playing the game, it’s difficult to explain what it’s all about but by the looks of the most recent screenshots and gameplay videos, you’ll take control of a former demi-god with lightning quick reflexes and unbelievable strength (not to mention, at times, six arms) who will battle against planet-sized deities and enemies that tower over mountains.

These enemies also pack rocket launchers, which makes things interesting.

It’s an action game of epic proportions, so pick through El33tonline’s past looks at Asura’s Wrath for more clues as to its over-the-top nature.

Once we got over the initial shock of a multiplayer-focussed Resident Evil game set during the events of Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 3, Capcom’s upcoming Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City has begun to become very intriguing indeed and will finally allow us to run around in the legendary Raccoon City with a group of friends on a mission to destroy as many zombies as possible.

Conversely, instead of destroying zombies, we might also be tasked with taking on special story-specific missions. Missions such as ‘Kill Leon Kennedy.’ Y’know, standard stuff.

E3 2011 provided an overwhelming wealth of new gameplay demonstrations and impressive screenshots for Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City, and we can say that we’re quietly confident in the game’s prowess.

Don’t let us down, Capcom!

Forget about his hair colour - Dante is going to kick and slash horrendous monsters in the face with Capcom and Ninja Theory’s iteration of Devil May Cry!

Billed as a reboot of the franchise and starring a re-imagined, younger, more rebellious Dante as he jumps way in the air and chains together stylish sword and gun-slinging attacks to destroy hellish creatures. E3 2011 brought with it Devil May Cry’s very first gameplay video, and the action is intense!

Have you forgotten about Dante’s hair colour yet? Oh, sorry.
