The rumours were swirling with maximum velocity, but SEGA has finally confirmed that Sonic Generations will see a release on Nintendo’s 3DS with exclusive new features, alongside the already announced Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 versions of the blue speedster’s next outing.
Due for release in November of this year, Sonic Generations on 3DS will be similarly set across three of Sonic the Hedgehog’s most important eras spanning twenty years, and for the first time will see Sonic appear in stereoscopic 3D levels designed exclusively for the 3DS.
Sonic Generations for 3DS will sport the same storyline as the Xbox 360 and PS3 versions of the game (“with Sonic and his friends pulled back through time due to a mysterious new power which is causing chaos throughout the universe by creating strange ‘time holes’”), but will feature exclusive unlockable ‘Special Stages,’ and also take advantage of the StreetPass function of the 3DS, allowing you to collect new content and unlock bonus material when you pass another player of the game.
Additionally, Sonic Generations on 3DS will include a new two-player versus mode which means that fans will be able to “battle it out across some of the most recognisable Sonic environments in a completely new way.”
