Today, something quite disturbing arrived at my door. Something creepy… and even a little scary. At first, I couldn’t look past the dashes of bloody fingerprints and streaks of crimson gore smeared on it, but after a cursory glance my interest was well and truly piqued.
I couldn’t stop examining it and flicking through its contents, trying to put together the clues – if they even were clues – to get to the bottom of its mystery.
Today, I received a family photo album, and it’s horrific. And entirely awesome.
El33tonline today received a slick FEAR 3 press kit from South African game distributor Nu Metro, and instead of a simple envelope containing a disc full of screenshots, information and concept art, this press kit takes the form of a supposed ‘Family Photo Album,’ with images of FEAR 3’s main characters, namely the brothers Paxton Fettel and The Point Man, and their ‘mother,’ Alma.
Also included within the pages of the printed album is a great selection of screenshots and concept art, as well as puzzling newspaper clippings and a lock of hair, seemingly pasted and taped into the book, while the pages and cover are all ‘stained’ in blood and dirt, with a realistic weathering effect applied to the edges of the album to complete the look.
This kind of press package is a great way to draw people into the narrative and mystique of a game, and El33tonline certainly appreciates the design effort that’s gone into making this book. I was interested in FEAR 3 before, but now I’m doubly so!
You can ‘discover’ FEAR 3 with El33online’s extensive previous coverage of the horror-themed first-person shooter, where you’ll be able to read about the game’s intriguing cooperative modes, as well as the chilling backstory involving Alma, Fettel and Point Man, and flip through healthy batches of screenshots while watching creepy in-game trailers showcasing some of the intense, bloody action of FEAR 3.
FEAR 3 is due out on June 21st in North America, and then on June 24th in Europe and the UK, across Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC platforms.
