When I first read reports about Uncharted coming to NGP I was unsure if it was a remake of Uncharted 1 or an entirely new game. It soon became apparent that the latter case was true, and that Uncharted fans could enjoy a brand new storyline in the portable addition to this classic series.
The co-president of Naughty Dog - Christophe Balestra - offered new details about Uncharted NGP during a recent interview* with GameBlog.fr, saying that the game will take place between the events of Drake’s Fortune and Among Thieves. He also suggested that Uncharted NGP and the upcoming, mightily-anticipated Uncharted 3 will feature some kind of cross-compatibility.
Hopefully it’s something substantial that will not only entice gamers to purchase both titles to “get the full Uncharted experience” but will also provide a great example of how the NGP and PS3 can complement each other going forward.
Uncharted 3 is due for release on 11 November, so perhaps Christophe’s hint at cross-compatibility points to a year-end launch for the NGP with the portable version of Uncharted being a day-one title.
Next month’s E3 Expo should shed new light on both games, and I’d love to see Uncharted NGP get a proper title and release date at the event.
Uncharted NGP is being developed by SCEA-owned Bend Studio, whose previous work includes all the Syphon Filter games as well as the well-received PSP title Resistance: Retribution. Hopefully they can apply their many years of experience to this latest project and ensure it lives up to the incredibly high quality we’ve come to expect from the Uncharted series in recent years.
- In the unlikely/likely event that you understand French, the interview with Christophe is available here.
