Report: Targeted PSN service resume date is a fabrication

PlayStation Network LogoWelp, it seems we’ve all been duped by recent news that the PlayStation Network would return from its lengthy period of hibernation by May 31st, as Sony Computer Entertainment (SCE) executive Patrick Seybold has corrected a recent news report on Bloomberg.

Yesterday, Bloomberg reported that Sony Computer Entertainment Japan spokesperson Shigenori Yoshida had told the news outlet that the company was aiming to have the PlayStation Network operational again by the end of the month, with a date of May 31st attached to the target.

Dean Takahashi over at VentureBeat has discovered that the wording in the article was incorrect and misleading, and according to Patrick Seybold, should not have included a target date as SCE is still uncertain about when PSN would resume services.

Does this correction mean that SCE expects the PlayStation Network to remain down for longer than 41 days, and past the May 31st date? Or rather, is SCE targeting a date sooner than May 31st? Does SCE have a target at all, and is the company really uncertain about the exact date that PSN will go live?

Keep in mind that a target service resumption date was set for last week – a target that has come and gone. Perhaps SCE wishes not to provide another target date lest we are all disappointed again?

We’ll be keeping an eye and ear out for further announcements.
