According to a report on Bloomberg Sony Computer Entertainment Europe (SCEE) will today formally cut the price of the PSP handheld across the region, shaving a healthy 24% off of the recommended retail price.
The news came about after SCE Japan representative Satoshi Fukuoka of SCEJ revealed the price cut, the aim of which is “increasing the adoption of the player in Europe.”
Speaking to consumer site VG247, SCEE confirmed the news but said that such a price reduction would not come into effect in the UK. A statement from SCEE read:
“The price drop in continental Europe has been made possible by favourable fluctuations in the exchange rate between the Euro and the Yen.”
“Since we in the UK are vulnerable to two exchange rate calculations, pounds into Euro’s and Euro’s into Yen, we are not in a position to offer a similar cut in PSP for the UK.”
Those looking for a PSP in Europe will now be asked to pay €129.99, as opposed to the previous price of €169.99. The US also received a PSP price cut earlier this year, if you’ll remember.

I wonder what this means for South Africa? I still want a 2000/3000...
But... do you really still want one? Really? ;)
I think we're hamstrung by the same kinds of problems as the UK, so it would be my guess that South Africa won't be getting a price cut. Let's find out...
I have this library of like 20 PSP games and my PSP 1000 is too irritating to play them on, mainly because every time I pick it up its battery is dead because the battery decharges even when the system is off! So I'd really like to play my library without being foiled every time ;). In reality I'd love a Go if I could just get these UMD games onto a flash card...
