Don’t you just love it when you’re trawling the internet for game news and you read about the imminent release of a promising title that you’ve never even heard about? “Red Johnson’s Chronicles” on PlayStation Network is one such game in my case.
The title is being developed by French studio Lexis Numérique, and certainly shares some similarities with another game produced in France - Quantic Dream’s Heavy Rain. Both titles are heavy on atmosphere and depict criminal investigations.
What excites me most about this game is that it’s a point and click adventure featuring some visually stunning locales. If you loved any of those old pre-rendered adventure games such as Riven or Blade Runner then you’ll likely be just as excited as me that this genre is still alive and kicking thanks to games like Red Johnson’s Chronicles.
Another tantalising aspect of this title is the focus on item interaction to solve puzzles or gather clues to aid you in your investigation. For instance, you may need to rotate an item to find something written on its underside. Some survival horror games have moments like this, but hopefully Red Johnson’s Chronicles will approach item interaction as a far more intricate art.
Red Johnson’s Chronicles will be touching down on the PlayStation Network tomorrow, and is exclusive to PlayStation Plus members for a period of two weeks. The fun doesn’t end there however, as PS+ members will also receive a 50% discount on the title (the usual price is €9.99/£7.99).
Check out the trailer for Red Johnson’s Chronicles and keep your dial fixed on El33tonline for forthcoming impressions on this unique title.
Please note that the trailer below contains some instances of swearing.
