Persona fans have long been awaiting news to drop regarding a next-gen iteration of their beloved franchise. Although no such news has been forthcoming to date, the official confirmation of a Persona 4 anime adaptation is most welcome.
This announcement comes courtesy of the official website for the upcoming series. Although it’s in Japanese, the site confirms that the four main characters from the PS2 RPG will be returning (Yukiko, Chie, Yosuke and Souji - the silent protagonist), and that some of the staff who worked on the game will also be involved in this project.
The series is being produced by Aniplex - a Sony owned anime studio. They were also behind the adaptation of an anime loosely tied to the events of Persona 3 called Persona: Trinity Soul. I watched a few episodes of this show myself and it chose to focus on the dark aspects of the game, rather than the characters’ light-hearted school antics which were one of the best things about P3.
I’m excited about this news as an anime series based on Persona 4 should breathe new life into this classic RPG and give us new insight into the characters at the heart of the game’s intriguing, supernatural story.
