It was being reported that with Crysis 2, Crytek would buck EA’s new trend of including ‘Online Pass’ into the online multiplayer portions of the publisher’s games (requiring you to enter a provided code to unlock multiplayer, or pay $10 if you bought the game second-hand), but it’s now been confirmed that the upcoming first-person shooter extravaganza will indeed not make use of the system.
Speaking to CVG, a Crytek representative said:
“All we can say/confirm is that we aren’t using Online Pass for Crysis 2.”
With EA’s Online Pass system, all new copies of games come standard with a code used to unlock whatever online mode is included with that game (as well as provide access to additional free content), and this system has been used in a number of EA’s titles already including Dead Space 2, Need For Speed: Hot Pursuit, Mass Effect 2 and Battlefield: Bad Company 2.
If you happen to purchase a used copy of an EA game, however, and don’t get the registration code for your Online Pass, you’ll need to go online and pay $10 for this code. If you choose not to pay the $10 for an Online Pass, you won’t gain access to online multiplayer for that game.
But not with Crysis 2.
Crysis 2 is looking insanely amazing, and you can browse through El33tonline’s past coverage of the game for absolutely tons of videos, screenshots and information.
Crysis 2 is due for release on March 22nd in North America and March 25th in Europe and the UK.
