We waited almost a year-and-a-half for Bioware’s next epic fantasy-themed RPG, Dragon Age 2, to launch, giving RPG fans the world over the chance to re-enter the ancient, rich and incredible world of Dragon Age.
The El33tonline team had been eagerly awaiting its arrival you see, because both Oltman and Tom are big fans of the series. The only thing left to see was just how mighty this RPG adventure would be, and how the PC and Xbox 360 versions would compare against one another.
Well, the reviews scores came back with an even matching, which you can read more about over here: Oltman reviewed the Xbox 360 version and Tom the PC version of the game. So to settle the score once and for all, let’s see what the reviewers themselves have to say about how the Xbox 360 version of Dragon Age 2 faired against the PC one.
Take it away gentlemen!
Oltman
“I am sure the PC version would normally be considered superior, but in this case it was more ‘consolised’ than before, meaning the PC version had to give up some of its features to make it more identical to the console version (no isometric view etc.). The console version also feels more action oriented than the original’s PC version, with tactics not required nearly as much as before, yet the Tactics menu option allowing it to be more customised, even though it’s never used…
“Combined they both offer the same great story, with memorable companion interactions and do a great job of cementing the Dragon Age universe as a prime location for more games in the series.”

Tom
“The PC version of Dragon Age 2 is the one to get unless you have a strong preference for playing games on a console, or feel it will run better on your Xbox 360 or PS3 than on your antediluvian PC. Dragon Age 2 on PC already has an official ‘high resolution texture pack’ available as a free download, which further enhances the visuals for those of you with newish rigs. You can expect faster load times (the game doesn’t require the disc to run), speedier frame rates and better anti-aliasing on the PC version. The keyboard and mouse setup on PC really enhances the controls due to the ease with which you can select abilities during battle (via hotkeys or by clicking on them) or bring up specific sections of the menu by using keyboard shortcuts (such as M for map or I for inventory). You can even play through the entire game one-handed using the mouse - very convenient for when you need to scoff down that pizza slice or sip lazily on a cup of coffee.
“Finally, the PC version of Dragon Age 2 isn’t the button basher its console cousin is due to the fact that you only need to right-click on an enemy to initiate an attack, and your character will keep up their assault until you instruct them otherwise. From what I’ve heard, on consoles you need to hit the attack button every time you want your protagonist to swing their sword (or use their staff). If you’ve got a choice between playing Dragon Age 2 on PC and consoles, I would recommend going with the system you’re most comfortable with. If that happens to be the former then you’re in luck because Dragon Age 2 on PC pips its console cousins to the post in a number of areas.”
