On day one of launch, THQ and Kaos Studio’s Homefront managed to sell an impressive 375 000 units in the US alone, and due to high demand for online play the companies recently increased server capacity and released a series of patches to help the multiplayer side of things run more smoothly.

Now, THQ has announced that Homefront has sold in excess of one million units around the world since launching over the week of March 18th, while 2.4 million units of the military-themed first-person shooter have made their way into retail.

As a result, market analyst at EEDAR, Jesse Divnich, has stated that Homefront it’s now possible for Homefront to sell at least three million units over its lifetime, after other analysts predicted sales in the 1.5 to 2 million mark. Divnich said:

“As an industry—and this is specifically targeted towards analysts and investors — it is easy to become too reliant on a single metric, which may erroneously drive forecasts and/or investment decisions.”

“In the case of Homefront, it is clear that the investment community did not take into account all the factors including the strong preorders and pre-release awareness that existed among consumers for the title,” Divnich continued. “The reality is that numerous factors exist that can impact the overall sales performance for a title.”

“We are very pleased with strong worldwide shipments and sell-through for Homefront, and we continue to fulfill new retail orders for the game across the globe. Homefront is clearly resonating with gamers and we are certainly pleased with our initial sales results.”
