Beyond Good & Evil HD dated, explosive new trailer to celebrate

Ubisoft has stamped a release date on Beyond Good & Evil HD, the HD re-release of the cult-like PS2 classic.

Originally released on the PS2 back in 2003, Beyond Good & Evil is a story-based adventure game that’s based on a distant mining planet called Hyllis in 2435. It revolves around Jade, a photojournalist and martial artist, who is working alongside a resistance agency to expose a government conspiracy.

The HD version will include “the same type of care Michel Ancel and his team has when they designed the original game.” Of course it will feature higher higher resolution textures and a smoother frame rate, rendering at a 1080p HD resolution, as well as online leaderboards, trophies and achievements. It will also include enhanced character models and a remastered musical score.

Good news for fans of the game is that if you purchase Beyond Good & Evil HD within the first two weeks of launch you’ll receive two free avatars of Jade and Pey’j.

Beyond Good & Evil HD will be available on the PlayStation Network in May. The game will also be coming to Xbox LIVE Arcade, although a release date has yet to be confirmed. Until then you can busy yourself by reading our review of the PS2 classic, and browsing through our previous coverage.

Yay! PS3 owners can get in on this classic again, too! ;)

Is there more to this than just higher resolution? I bought the PC version back in 2003 and was able to run HD from 2004 with my new PC. Also the game is still selling under UBISOFT exclusive range for about R50. How is this different from the gamecube,xbox,ps2,pc version except for higher res? I notice no difference in model or texture quality.
