Did you enjoy 3D Realms and Human Head’s sci-fi first-person shooter, Prey, in 2006? If you did, you’re in for a treat because a sequel to the wall-walking, portal-featuring, mind-bending game has been (tentatively) revealed.
Reports (and an image) have hit the ‘net outing the existence of Prey 2, thanks to a cover story soon to appear in the pages of French game magazine, Joystick, with the title reading (translated by NoFrag):
“Nobody was expecting it, but that’s going to change!”
The license to Prey currently rests with Zenimax Media (they of gaming conglomerate Bethesda Softworks, id Software and others), but was originally conceived at 3D Realms proper prior to 2000, before Human Head Studios (Rune) was tasked with bringing the game’s (at the time) insane universe and technology to life.
To sum things up very briefly, Prey was the original ’Duke Nukem Forever’ in terms of development time, and when it was released on PC in 2006, the concept had been in development for close on ten years. Prey was received relatively well (it went on to enjoy an Xbox 360 release in the same year as the PC version) but suffered severe gamer backlash despite the initial general consensus that it was an above-average shooter.
Who is developing Prey 2 and when can we expect its release? It’s safe to say we’ll find out real soon!
