Guerrilla: Killzone 3 pushes PS3 to the limit, easily surpasses Killzone 2

New performance information has emerged from the recently held PlayStation Experience event in London regarding Guerrilla Games’ upcoming Killzone 3, and if what the developer says can be believed, Killzone 3 is going to be a graphical monster!

Guerrilla Games technical director Arjan Brussee told a group of gathered journalists in a group interview that Killzone 3 is pushing the PS3 to the absolute limit, and uses one hundred percent of the power of the Cell processor.

Killzone 2, by comparison, apparently only used sixty percent of the PS3’s capabilities.

Additionally, Killzone 3 runs at 720p, but makes up for this with Guerrilla Games’ signature use of shaders and expert art direction to make up for the lack of resolution. Also making up for the ‘lower’ resolution (compared to other modern games) is the fact that the game’s Blu-ray disc will hold 43.8 GB of data, and with texture quality up to four times higher than that of Killzone 2.

Draw distance is also said to be up to three times greater than Killzone 2, while the polygon count in Killzone 3 will be three times greater than the previous game, too.

I don’t know about you, but I think Killzone 2 is still an excellent-looking game, so if Guerrilla Games’ claims are indeed true, and Killzone 3 is such an incredible leap forward in terms of graphical prowess, PlayStation 3 gamers are in for a real T.R.E.A.T. when the game hits store shelves this month, on February 22nd in North America, February 23rd in Europe and February 25th in the UK.

You can see for yourself with the multiplayer open beta now available on the PlayStation Network, as well as the upcoming singleplayer demo for the game.
