EA and Visceral Games have finally slapped a release date on the first set of scheduled story-based downloadable content (DLC) for the horrific action adventure game Dead Space 2, and like the creatures in the game, it’s managed to sneak up on all of us.

Dead Space 2: Severed will become available on March 1st on Xbox LIVE Marketplace and the US PlayStation Store, and then on March 2nd on the European PlayStation Store, for $6.99/£5.49 or 560 MS Points.

Here’s what you’ll be getting up to in Severed, with the addition of two stand-alone singleplayer chapters:

“This digital pack will take players through the haunting story of Gabe Weller, who fans will remember from the award-winning game Dead Space Extraction. As a security officer, Weller comes equipped with a one-of-a-kind security suit and an upgraded, more powerful Pulse Rifle that will help him unleash his own blood-curdling adventure across the Sprawl.

“Lurking behind every corner is another bloodthirsty monster but the big surprise for Weller (and fans) is the return of the Twitcher, a grotesque enemy who first appeared in the original Dead Space game.”

Yup, sounds like Dead Space to me!

In addition, EA has revealed that a few suit and weapon packs are now available on Xbox LIVE Marketplace and the PlayStation Store in order to supercharge your regular Dead Space 2 experience. Here’s the details on those:
