SEGA has today announced that Western PlayStation 3 gamers can start getting excited for the release of a Yakuza 4 demo this month! The contents of the demo have been detailed, while a trailer focussing on the ‘hostesses’ in Yakuza 4 has also been released - an element that was removed from the Western release of Yakuza 3.
So then, on February 16th PlayStation Plus subscribers will be able to download the Yakuza 4 demo, and then regular PlayStation Network users will gain access to the taster on February 23rd. Here’s what you’ll be getting up to in the sample:
“The demo will allow you to take on the roles of all four characters enabling you to get a taste for life in the Japanese underworld with each imposing individual employing their own unique fighting styles and bringing their own particular brand of violence to the table. Of course this is merely scraping the tip of the iceberg that is the Yakuza 4 experience.”

i wonder if this will be different to the japanese yakuza 4 demo i played last year. it was broken up into two sections - adventure and battle. in battle mode you fight as all four characters (one at a time) in four different levels. in adventure mode you can explore quite a bit of the city and play table tennis or sing karaoke with one of your girlfriends. you play as the main character (shoulder-length black hair, red-ish jacket etc.). there are quite a few lengthy cut-scenes in this mode. the demo was a 2GB download. i remember reading that the japanese yakuza 3 demo was identical to the western one, but i'm not sure how it's going to work this time around.
