There was a lot of speculation and excitement surrounding the announcement of the next Alan Wake game, but with little to no official information on it, we were all forced to refer to it simply as ‘the next Alan Wake game.’
‘It’s not a sequel to Alan Wake,’ we were told, but it does ‘take place in the Alan Wake universe,’ reports confirmed. ‘And it’s downloadable.’ Interesting.
But what is it?
Last night’s Spike Video Game Awards played host to the first worldwide unveiling of Alan Wake: American Nightmare, a new action thriller adventure game starring Alan Wake - here’s the debut trailer:
(Note: The trailer seems a bit out-of-sync - we’ll post an updated video as soon as possible.)

Comments:
I loved Alan Wake. I did. But this looks like it is exactly the same as Alan Wake (gameplay wise) with just a different plot. They need to do something intuitive to make it discernibly different from Alan Wake.
Hopefully your wish will be granted. I could always go for more Alan Wake action, but I'm also hoping the folks at Remedy have been thinking about how to switch it up again.
The story seems more 'game like' this time around, though, with a focus on the antagonist and Wake's role as a 'hero.' I don't know if I like that. I enjoyed the ambiguity of the original.
The original Alan Wake, although an awesome cult classic in my opinion, just didn't do that well in terms of sales. I'm glad Remedy even went ahead and made another one. But yeah, in terms of gameplay Alan Wake did start getting a tad stale towards the end, so I do hope they switch it up.
@Oliver: and boy, did ambiguity play a big role! I was really hoping for a fully fledged sequel that would answer the tonne of questions that I have. "It's not a lake, it's an ocean"? Oh boy, that sentence really got me excited.
Looks interesting, ive never played any of the Alan Wake titles, i am now thinking i should mabe POItjie will lend me his copy?
@Smuroh: Definitely! This game had a kick ass story, innovative gameplay and a helluva creepy atmosphere
so its a yes on getting my hands on the game ok hopefully POItjie has finished it so i can give it a bash
I need to steal an Xbox to play this game but I heard the last Alan Wake game was damn short, who wants to spend R600 for a game that ends in 1 day?
