Happy Birthday! On this day in 1938, December 23rd, the first modern coelacanth was discovered South Africa.

On this day in 1823, December 23rd, the famous Christmas poem, ‘The Night Before Christmas,’ was published anonymously.

And on this day in 19XX, December 23rd, El33tonline friend, reader and reviewer Russell Marston was born.

So all told, December 23rd seems to be quite a successful day in history!

Prometheus Badge Hands up those of you who regard the original ‘Alien’ movie to be one of the finest pieces of film ever to be crafted. Hands up those of you who think director Ridley Scott can do absolutely no wrong.

The FIFA titles on PSP are somewhat underwhelming but EA Sports is looking to raise the bar considerably with FIFA Football on PS Vita.

PS Vita Portable Charger

The European launch of PS Vita is still two months away but that doesn’t mean gamers aren’t busy stashing away as much money as possible to be able to afford some of the excellent games and accessories available at launch.

The EU PlayStation Blog recently published a list of the recommended retail price (RRP) for a variety of PS Vita game cards, memory cards and peripherals which will be available at launch. For South African readers - you can estimate the price of an item in our currency by multiplying the cost of it in Pounds by 12.

Yesterday Nintendo released a fun messaging app for the 3DS called Nintendo Letter Box (known as Swapnote in the US). You can download it for free from the Nintendo eShop and immediately start sending and receiving messages via StreetPass or SpotPass.

The app has a number of cool features, including the option to attach photos and sound effects to your messages. You can also create 3D drawings and text simply by switching between two planes on the fly, and each message can be up to four pages long.

Spec Ops: The Line was recently re-unveiled by 2K Games and Yager, giving us but a teasing taste of what we can expect from this third-person shooter when it arrives in 2012.

Now, the publisher/developer pair have unleashed a thrilling gameplay trailer to prepare us for the chaotic, white-knuckle action they’re aiming to include in the game with quick cuts of devastating sandstorms, gunfire and aerial combat - one to look out for in 2012!
