If you’re a regular visitor to El33tonline you’ll have noticed that I’m more than a little fond of Dark Souls. From Software’s follow-up to the innovative Demon’s Souls is one of those few games which place you firmly in control of your destiny and offers one of the most addictive gameplay experiences around.
From Software and publisher Namco Bandai recently announced that worldwide shipments for the game have passed the 1.5 million mark. So far Dark Souls has performed best in North America where more than 600 000 units have been shipped.
Total shipments by region are as follows:
- Japan: 370 000
- North America: 620 000
- Europe: 470 000
- Asia: 40 000
It’s great to see Dark Souls performing so well and surpassing its predecessor’s performance just weeks after launch. According to one estimate Demon’s Souls has sold around 1.3 million units since its launch in February 2009, while the 1.5 million copies of Dark Souls already shipped should translate into hard sales during the next few months.

Impressive. I wonder how many were shipped here, if it even made it to 10 000.
I never played the first and I'm not a RPG guy (Dragon Age: Origins is just lying around... well, sitting neatly on my shelf), but I'm not going to deny that this game looks amazingnessfully good. Give credit where credit is due (or be black-listed).
I am really bad at rpg's, but I do enjoy them. I play on easy first lol. Still want to get this one day, this year has too many titles that I will not get to. MK9, Dark Souls, Batman, Lord of the Rings: WitN, and possibly... Skyrim (I hope not)
Dark Souls FTW! :D
This game looks really good, I would like to get it, but I'm scared I'm going to put so many hours into this games and my Big backlog of games as it is is just going to get bigger. I'll get this one someday in the near future.
I'm glad to hear it sold well, it sounds like an awesome game. One of those 1.5m copies shipped is sitting unopened on my table. I'm finished Gears 3 single player, so I'm looking to start something else along with Forza 4 and a bit of Gears 3 co-op multiplayer, it was going to be Dark Souls or Deus Ex, but I'm thinking of squeezing in The Gunstringer first, as it is apparently nice and short, which Dark Souls certainly isn't.
@graeme let me know if you want to play through dark souls co-op. i reckon you can fly through it in about 20 hours if you've got a co-op buddy by your side. one of the advantages of the xbox 360 version is that you can private chat at any time during the game. very handy for setting up co-op play!
