Despite the release of some of 2011’s most anticipated games across all platforms, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 was still able to top Chart Track’s UK Software Sales listing this past week, even with an 87% drop in sales compared to the week previous.
A whopping nine new games entered Chart Track’s Top 40 this week, and five of those managed a Top Ten placement, while eight of these new titles slipped into the Top Twenty.
Assassin’s Creed: Revelations heads up the lot at No. 2 and was able to best launch week sales of Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood last year, both in terms of units sold (up 4%) and revenue (up 8%), becoming “the most successful of the franchise and also of any previous Ubisoft release,” says Chart Track. Quite a feat! 61% of the game’s week one sales were recorded in 24 hours, which is massive.
Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim (sales down 62%) drops one place to No. 3 this week, as Saints Row: The Third debuts at No. 4 on the chart while besting Saints Row 2’s launch week sales by an incredible 43% when that game became available in late 2008.
FIFA 12 (sales up 7%) slips to No. 5 from No. 4 last week, another new title arrives in the form of Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary, and The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword (yet another debut game) appears at No. 7.
Battlefield 3 (sales down 40%) twitches down five places to No. 8, debut 3DS title Super Mario 3D Land shows up at No. 9 and Just Dance 3 tumbles five place to round out the Top Ten, at No. 10.
Also releasing this week, we have Need For Speed: The Run at No. 11, LEGO Harry Potter: Years 5 – 7 at No. 13, Mario & Sonic at the London 2012 Olympic Games at No. 20, and Kinect Disneyland Adventures at No. 39.
