In a turn of events that will surprise no-one, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 has topped the latest UK Software Sales Chart after becoming the biggest launch of an entertainment product ever, in the history of everything, last week.
According to Chart Track, the launch week sales of Modern Warfare 3 are roughly equal to Call of Duty: Black Ops during a similar period, but the latest game in the series is more successful by revenue. Chart Track once again notes that this makes Modern Warfare 3 “the highest grossing opening week of all time for any entertainment title, outselling the opening weekend box office of the last four Harry Potter films combined.”
The Xbox 360 version of Modern Warfare 3 took 59% of overall sales (compared to 55% for Black Ops), while PS3 claimed 40% of the total (compared to 42% for Black Ops).
What might be surprising is that The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim has managed to squeeze into No. 2 on the sales listing, ahead of Battlefield 3, resulting in the 5th biggest launch week of 2011 (“after Modern Warfare 3, FIFA 12, Battlefield 3 and only just behind Gears of War 3,” says Chart Track), with launch week sales doubling that of Fallout: New Vegas.
Battlefield 3 (sales down 62%) is down to No. 3 from No. 1 on the chart, FIFA 12 (sales down 3%) shifts one place down to No. 4, Just Dance 3 (sales up 18%) is a non-mover at No. 5, and Uncharted 3 (sales down 72%) slips four places to No. 6.
New entry, Moshi Monsters: Moshling Zoo (a home spin-off of the popular online social game) arrives at No. 7, Batman: Arkham City (sales down 41%) tumbles four places to No. 8, Zumba Fitness (sales up 4%) is down one place at No. 9, and Wii Party (sales up a whopping 485%) zooms back into the Top Ten, at No. 10, thanks to the newly released ‘Family Edition’ Wii hardware bundle.

Comments:
O no, Zumba has gone down one place....It was expected for MW3 to be top one. The game is really expensive and that's why its the highest grossing game ever.
soon i will have Skyrim! :O
@POItjie you have a good point, the game is really expensive and the fact that its COD title just boosts that, i would love to be able to get this game vut its just going to have to wait
Modern Warfare 3 at number one, who'd have guessed? #bazinga The fact that three games whose focus is on Single Player is in the Top 10 is totally awesome! Go Uncharted! Go Skyrim! Go Batman!
That's a nice trend, definitely, well spotted ;)
