There’s been a lot of moaning and grousing following the release of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 and Battlefield 3 about how gamers are now being inundated with titles in the ‘modern military shooter’ genre, and how the action category of games now needs a change after following this trend for too long.
Sound familiar? This was the same sentiment expressed when World War II shooters were all the rage - gamers had grown tired of them, and with the release of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, we got the change we wanted.
The military shooter isn’t the only popular gaming trend that some would rather see go away, so this Question of the Day asks:
What popular game trends do you want to end?
These trends could be anything, from over reliance on post-release downloadable content, half-hearted attempts at Move and Kinect support, cover-based shooters, short singleplayer games with focusses on multiplayer, and many more.

Comments:
Mos Def Short Singlplayer campaigns, why not create two disks and have multiplayer on one and Singleplayer on one.
I agree with Ninjascreed. Look at how well it works with BF3. the signleplayer as an awesome size and really good. with the coop and MP on a disc of its own. I think some developers are focusing too much on the MP side. Not everyone plays MP online or offline for that matter.
another trend that must stop is the support for COD games coming out twice a Year. coff coff its bit much don't you think.
The trend of latching MP components on to games simply to serve a bigger market. If you make an awesome SP experience the market will serve you. Ask Naughty Dog.
The 'multiplayer is everthing' trend. When a new game is announced, the very first information they give you is multiplayer. Okay maybe not in all cases, but it happens a lot. Even games that aren't mp focussed. I remember Uncharted 3 mp videos being released before the sp was given any attention. It seems that is what every game is heading to. Even Mass Effect 3. It's sad really, that developers rely so heavily on the mp trend that they have to include it in campaign-focussed games.
Short singleplayer campaigns are the worst - most of us gamers enjoy both single- and multiplayer so make both meaty please!
There's also nothing worse than getting home, popping your new game in and having to wait another hour for a huge patch to download. Eish.
This annoying recent trend of releasing 5+ AAA titles within a month of each other. AND just before Christmas too, my poor aching wallet ;)
It sickness me how much greed plays a part in developers releasing games nowadays.I remember when video games was only about singleplayer campaigns back in the old days of the sega's.When a singleplayer story was a fun!
Then developers realised the potential multiplayer mode could have on their bank accounts - Overpriced add ons and DLC maps, rushed half assed multiplayer games (aka COD) which can be fixed later with a quick update or broken further. All at the cost of singleplayer which is 1 hour long with 55 minutes of cutscenes in between.
Multiplayer is okay but please I want to playthrough a story not a buggy commercial becuase at the end of the day thats what my R600 - R700 should be worthy of.
They can get rid of FPS's now I think we had over enough.....bring on games like jak and daxter / ico / SOTC....gosh even ratchet and clank and jak and daxter turned into shooters
Short SP campaigns, this needs to chage becuase its always the case that you get really into a game and bam roll credits, the other for me would have to be lack of Co-Op thier have been so many games that have been made that are perfect for Co-Op but it was never added
Yeah, I'll agree with everyone saying the current multiplayer focus. Single player gaming should not be an afterthought.
Also, the reliance on quick time events as a substitute for genuine interactivity.
I agree! Back in the day, single player was all the rave. It was also the only way to play as internet was lagging with dial up etc. LAN parties was the only real way to MP and even that was cool. We need alot more SP time to build a proper story of the game before they jump to MP. These days only MP gets attention and SP gets skimped on. (Excluding MMORPG like WOW) So TBH, Skyrim and Assassins Creed for the win! 300+ hours of game play!
Two things: Final Fantasy games trying to look amazing rather and forgetting about the fun factor; and overpriced dlc.
I want the Hype Train to end!
Every game has their fans, but honestly, play the game then board the Hype Train. Do not just arrogantly assume because YOU like it, everyone else will. Yeah, I'm looking at you, you Duke Nukem Forever people.
