We’re all keenly aware that Battlefield 3 is going to be massive, with pre-order numbers for EA and DICE’s military shooter going through the roof as well as an insane amount of buzz rumbling around on the internet, and at this year’s gauntlet of game shows.
The fact that the online beta test for Battlefield 3 is said to be six times larger than a similar testing period for Battlefield: Bad Company 2 only confirms our beliefs that the launch of the upcoming action title is going to be unbelievably gigantic.
DICE general manager Karl Magnus Troedsson recently posted on the official Battlefield blog to talk more about the game’s magnitude:
“The biggest reason for running the Open Beta is to stress test our servers and back end. Already, we are seeing 6 times the number of simultaneous players in the Battlefield 3 Open Beta compared to the Beta for Battlefield: Bad Company 2!”
“The fact that Battlefield 3 is clearly our biggest game launch ever by a magnitude of 6 makes it doubly important to test everything,” Troedsson added.
In addition, a list of changes has been released detailing how the Battlefield 3 beta has helped shape the final version of the game, and thanks to your participation in the taster, Battlefield 3 will be even better.
Here’s that list:
Changes being made to Battlefield 3 from Open Beta to Final – Part 1:
- Fixed occasional client crash when reviving.
- Fixed killcam showing glitched area under map if your killer is dead.
- Issue with spawning on dead squad mates fixed.
- Fixed a bug where shooting at a moving enemy could cause more than the intended amount of damage.
- Crosshairs for shotguns have been replaced with a new, thinner, art.
- A subtle low health screen effect has been added.
- Tweaked scores of Medals and Service Stars.
- Tweaked the Rank progression.
- Pushing prone on console will not play the animation twice.
- Fixed loss of Squad Leader after EOR at some times.
- Framerate stability fixes.
- The 3D spotting icons has been tweaked to better match the target’s visibility. Icons will show frequently less on mostly obscured targets.
- Fixed issue with crosshair disappearing after round transition.
- Fixed issue with crosshair disappearing after trying to deploy while the countdown timer still active.
- Squad list now shows specializations chosen, VOIP activity and dead squad mates.
- Non working options in squad menu fixed: “Private” flag and “Switch Teams”.

Battlefield 3 Beta is awesome. the action is awesome. This game is going to take alot of my time online. I can't wait for the final release.
I finally managed to get into the Beta last night and i felt right at home, felt just like Medal of Honor which is definately a good thing i put allot of hours into that MP and i know im going to be putting allot more into BF3, from the two maps i got to play in, everything is really fluid and meshes well, im loving the destructable environment, watched the side of a building come down as a rocket hit it last night, and the pillars chip away as its riddled with bullet fire. I did have one issue though i would get a clear headshot but the enemy would not go down untill i put 3 or 4 into him/her, but as this is just a Beta u cant really judge it. This game is going to be huge.
Medal of Honor MP is awesome. the same with Bad Company 2. We always have a good laugh. maybe the reason why they not dying is because you missing them.... ;). but i think the final release will be 100% on release day. The beta is there to see where it can be imporved.
To be honest, i would like them to remove the "kill cam". But its not the end of the world if they don't. Keep safe and game on.
Dang, I only have a couple more days to jump into the beta! I played a bit at rAge, but not nearly enough to get into it properly. What I did play was excellent - the feel of co-operation is amazing.

I wish i could get more game time into the Beta. i Think Battlefield 3 is going to be one of the best Online shooters that from Halo Reach, Medal of Honor and the new Counter Strike thats coming out. long live the online shooter. (Bang....headshot)
wait, wait, wait....Oliver knows that this is my department...BATTLEFIELD 3!!!!!!! @ Poltjie, they will remove the kill cam but only on hardcore mode like badcompany 2. my pre-order is done!!! just waiting for that day which is B-day.
Kill cam is not that bad. It doesn't fully show how to get to the guy. I'm just use to Medal of Honor where you need to go find the guy and kill him without the help of killcam. Had a Good session in Bad Company 2 lastnite and a really bad one in Battlefield 3 Beta.
I find the kill cam annoying, it takes up my time between death and getting back into the action, I dont need to know where i got shot from, i just want to get back into the action and finish the mission....i had an awesome session in BF3 lastnight, apart from the few glitches im really enjoying it...BF2 was fun i died a hell of allot but got into the rhythm eventually lol
I would love to do i BF2 mp with a full team including a team leader, the game would be awesome like that, most of the time ppl lone wolf it
Thats a good point. I think they should have made it available for you to turn it on or off, but not by going into a different mode. the time you respawned the guy would have moved or is silly enough to stay were he was. I had a Better session in BC2 than in BF3.
Smuroh, maybe we should give team Rush or Team Conquest a try tonight. Who wants to join us? We really not that bad gamers. Well i'm married so i am use to taking orders ;)
